Towneley

Neale's Towneleys

Michael de la Legh was born around 1230.   The Abbot of Newboe granted to Michael de la Legh certain lands in Extwistle; the original grant is now in the Towneley file at Lancashire Record Office. This charter without a date only shows he existed and indicates that later members of the family held this land in Extwistle (A township). To find the reason the Towneley family came to own the property follow Michael de la Legh.
