There are several known spellings of the Brandow surname: Brandaw, Brandau, Brando, (sometimes) Brandon

William Brandow was born about 1803 in New York.  The 1855 Greene County, NY census states born in Ulster Co. Also, states he has been a resident of only 7 years, I  think he was left Green Co., and  came back.  Most of his children were born in Greene Co, NY.  He married Margaret.  William died 15 March 1866 in Athens, Greene County, NY with out a will.  Margaret filed a Petition for Letters of Administration in the Greene County Surrogates Court, May 1, 1866, which  names his children and grandchildren. Children of Margaret and William:  Nelson Brandow, William H. Brandow age 45, Catherine Hanmore age 36 wife of Charles Hanmore, Harriet E. Day age 34, wife of John Day; Lewis Brandow age 28, Alonzo Brandow age 22, and Charles Brandow.  William, Catherine and Harriet are residing in Athens, NY.  Lewis, Alonzo and Charles are living in New York City, NY. Also, Ann Mavin Brandow, deceased daughter who is the wife of Nicholas Van Dyke. Grandchildren: William Van Dyke, Janus Van Dyke, George Van Dyke and Charles Van Dyke, residing with their father.  Donna Brandow, Edward Brandow, Champlian Brandow, Mary Brandow, Edna Brandow infant children of Nelson Brandow son of deceased William and his wife Catherine Glapenas? who is deceased.

1855 Athens, Greene Co., NY Census -  William Brandow ship carpenter age 52, wife Margaret age 50, Lewis age 19 born Greene Co., NY; Charles 17 born Greene Co., NY and Hugo? who is actually Alonzo age 13,  born Greene Co., NY. This states that William was born in Ulster Co., NY and he had been residing in Greene Co. for 7 years.  Margaret was born in Columbia Co., NY. 1860 Athens, Greene Co, NY  Census -   William age 53 ship carpenter, Value of real estate 600; Value of Personal estate 250.  Born in New York.;  Margaret age 50 born in NY; William age 39  circus rider, born in NY; Lewis age 24 boatman, born in NY; Charles age 22 boatman, born in NY;  Alonzo age 19, boatman born in NY.  Roll M63_758, Page 773 1870 Census, Village of Athens, Greene Co., NY -  Margaret Brandow age 68 (born abt 1802, NY) keeping house and has Real estate value of 800.00.  She has a child Frank Brandow living with her age 7, born in NY. 1880 Census, Village of Athens, Greene Co, NY -   Edward L. Brandow age 25 engineer on boat born in NY; Kathy wife age 21; Lillie E. age 4 and Frederick age 1; Margaret Brandow age 78, grandmother, born approximately 1802 in NY,  father born in Connecticut and mother in Pennsylvania.

Harriet Ella Brandow born 1832, Athens, Greene Co., NY died 17 August 1894, New York, NY and buried 19 August 1894 Athens Rural Cemetery, Athens, NY. Section One 1A-7 Harriet married John J. Day 2 March 1850 in First Reformed Church, Athens, NY.  John J. Day, son of Jarred Day and Lois Merrit was born 1827, Athens, Greene Co., NY.  Died 1902 Athens, Greene Co., NY and buried Athens Rural Cemetery, Athens, NY. Section One 1A-7

1850 Census residing in Troy Ward 4, Rensselaer, NY -   John J. Day age 23, boatman born NY; Harriet Day age 18 born NY.  Also residing with them is Mary Williard age 7 born in NY. 1855 Census Athens, Greene Co., NY - John J. Day age 28, Pilot born Greene Co., NY and residing there for 1 year; Harriet age 23 born Greene Co., NY and Caroline age 1 1860 Census West Troy Ward 2, Albany, NY - John Day age 33 Pilot, Value of Real Estate 800, Value of Personal Estate 150, born in NY. 1870 Census Athens, Greene Co., NY - John Day age 42, steamboat Captain, value real estate 2,000 personal estate 5,000; Harriet age 35 keeping house; Frank 18 Pilot born NY; Carrie 18 born in NY; Maggie age 15, born in NY; Austin age 11, born in NY; George age 9, born in NY and Jesse age 2 born in NY. 1880 Census  NY, Manhattan, NY - John J. Day age 52 Captain Steamboat; Harriet age 45; Austin age 21 engineer;  George age 19, pilot; Jesse age 12.  Also daughter Carrie Curran age 21 and grandson John Curran age 4.  Residing at 157 24th Street, New York City, Manhattan, NY Residing NY, Manhattan, NY - Frank Day age 28, Captain Steamboat; Lettie age 35 wife; Frank age 5 and Hattie age 3. 1894 - August 17 - Harriet  dies at 305 W. 22nd St. New, NY.  From her death certificate I find her father is William and her mother is Margaret.  (Everyone has told me she is the daughter of Peter W. Brandow and Maria Snow - Peter W and William are not the same person).  They may be brothers. 1900 Census - cannot find John J. Day all though he died in 1902.

Margaret L. Day born 25 February 1855 Athens, Greene Co., NY died 25 June 1929 Orlando, Orange Florida.  She is buried in the Greenwood Cemetery, Orlando, Florida. She married Paul Livingston 18 November 1875 in New York, Albany Co., NY, son of Louis and Frederica Thomas Livingston. Children:  Oswald born August 28, 1876, Albany NY and died August 29, 1876.  Roscoe Conklin Livingston born December 15, 1877 Washington DC; married Anna Loretta Frances Grant May 25, 1902, New York, Manhattan, NY Austin Livingston born 1878 and died 1879 Harry Livingston born 1883 and died 1923.
