My Clays landed in the eastern part of the Commonwealth of Virginia and stayed in the Richmond area for some time. Captain John Clay came to Jamestown, Virginia aboard "TheTreasurer" about 1613. They migrated to what is now the Wyoming County area of West Virginia. For more on my ancestors in this family please see Neale's Farley family information.

John Clay was born about 1587 in Wales, England and died about 1636/1640; place unknown and his spouse unknown. He had a son, John Clay.

John Clay was born about 1615 and died about 1654. He married Ann ____. They had a child, Charles Clay, born in 1638. He married Hannah Wilson. John died in 1686. They had a child, Henry Clay.

Henry Clay was born in 1672. He died in 1760. He married Mary M. Mitchell. They had a child, William Mitchell Clay.

William Mitchell Clay was born about 1710/1711 in Henrico County, Virginia. He married Anne Lewis in 1732. William died in 1774. They had a son, Mitchell Clay.

Mitchell Clay was born about 1735/1736 in Bedford, Virginia. He married Phoebe Belcher, a daughter of Richard Belcher in 1760. Mitchell died in Parrisburg, Virginia in 1811. He and Phoebe had a boy, Mitchell Clay, Jr.

Mitchell Clay, Jr. married Juda. He was the progenitor of the Clay's in Raleigh County, West Virgnia and Logan County, West Virginia and what is now Wyoming County, West Virginia. They had a boy, Henry J. Clay.

Henry J. Clay, was born abt. 1810 in Virginia. Henry J. died on abt 1890 Wyoming County, West Virginia. He married Mary (Polly) Anderson born abt 1820 and died 1885.  They are buried in Jackson Curve (Cook) Cemetery, Pineville, West Virginia.  They had a son, Hiram Clay.

Hiram Clay was born in 1836 in Kentucky. He married Elizabeth Mullins who was also born in Kentucky in 1843. He was a Confederate soldier. Hiram died in Wyoming County West Virginia. Hiram and Elizabeth had a daughter, Lucy Alice Clay.

Lucy Alice Clay was born on 25 August, 1862 in Pineville, Wyoming County, West Virginia. She married William Thomas Farley, son of John Henry Farley, on 28 May 1902 in West Virginia. Lucy died on 23 December 1960 in Portsmouth, Virginia. Lucy and Thomas had three daughters; The oldest, Edowa Farley, Glattruss Farley and Volga Farley.

Volga Farley was born on 16 June, 1915 in Welch, McDowell County, West Virginia. She married Buford James Clifton, son of Claude Granville and Nuni St. John Clifton, on 20 April 1935 in Welch, McDowell County, West Virginia. Volga died on 6 November 1965 in Portsmouth, Virginia. Volga and Buford had one child, Lassister Neale Clifton.

Lassister Neale Clifton is still alive and kicking and attempting to put this thing together!
