John and Rebecca Bolling Hart are the parents of Mary Elizabeth Hart, she married  William Price December  15,  1853 in Russell County, Va.  The family resided in Smyth County at that time and William Price resided in Russell County, VA.  His father was deceased at the time of their marriage and his mother  Lavinia was given on the marriage license.  William was 23 years old and Mary E. was 18, her parents were given as John and Rebecca Hart.  Their daughter Louisa was born October 1, 1854 acccording to the Birth Index of Russell Co., Va.



John Wesley Price



Nancy’s sister Mary Elizabeth Hart married William Price. William Price was the son of John Wesley and Lovina Price. Thye had nine children: Richard, William, Samuel, John Wesley, Jr; Harvey, Rachel, Rebecca Elizabeth and Jane.  This story is about his brother John Wesley Price.



William and Mary Hart Price lived on a farm in Countsville, near Grandeville, West Virginia.One night a group of Union Guards came to their home and said that William was needed in Spencer. They said they were taking him so that he could take the oath of allegiance.After a while Mary heard gunshots but not knowing what happened they did not investigate.William’s body was found two days later.He was tied to a tree and shot.After this happened John Wesley and Harvey went to Virginia and joined the Southern Army.

John Wesley. Price enlisted in the Confederate Service in 1862; he was in Company B, 16th West Virginia Cavalry and served till 1865.He was in six general engagements and several skirmishes.

John W. Price made his home in Roane County, West Virginia since 1855.He was school trustee for 10 years, 2 years as a member of the Board of Education, making a living mainly from farming.


John Wesley Price Jr. was born October 10, 1836, Russell County, VA and married Margaret Presley, daughter of Joseph and Rebecca Neely Presley. Margaret was born October 25, 1845 and died February 20, 1898.John Wesley died October 9, 1900. John and Margaret married January 3, 1867 in Jackson County, West Virginia.Their children were; 

Joseph born November 11, 1868, died August 23, 1960

Rebecca Jane born April 4, 1869, died 1947

Mary Lovina born April 28, 1871, died November 20, 1949

William E. born October 20, 1873

Ceclia S. born November 13, 1875, died January 19, 1960

John W. born January 1878, died December 18, 1958

George N. born November 6, 1880, died October 10, 1965

Stella Born May 1, 1884, died October 5, 1929

Roy born August 9 1886. died 1969

Rachel E. born July 27, 1893, died 1989

John W. Price was a Confederate soldier Company B, 16th Virginia Cavalry, enlisting in 1862, serving three years and fought on many battlefields.
