William PATTERSON was born in Virginia. He resided in Crockett's Cave, Wythe County, VA before he married Ann Edmiston, daughter of Thomas and Margaret EDMISTON. The first time we find him is October 2, 1782, Montgomery County, VA where he purchased 100 acres Middle Fork of the Holston River. In the Census records of 1782, Montgomery County, VA William and Thomas are both listed. In the Census records of 1789 and 1810 he is not listed just his wife Ann. William and Ann had one son, Andrew PATTERSON.

Andrew Patterson was born 1784 in Virginia. Listed in GUARDIAN BONDS, Washington Co, VA 1780-1872. February 21, 1804 John EDMONDSON named guardian of Andrew PATTERSON orphan of William PATTERSON, deceased. Andrew died June 19, 1862 in Washington County, Va. He married September 6, 1814 in Washington County, VA, Elizabeth COLE, daughter of Sampson COLE and Lydia WHEELER. Andrew PATTERSON was a minister. The house his slaves built, brick by brick, from materials on his land, is still standing and a descendant resides there. Andrew and Elizabeth had two sons, Thomas E., Sampson C., and five daughters, Elizabeth (Eliza), Lydia, Eleanor, Ann and Martha PATTERSON.

Martha PATTERSON was born June 22, 1831 in Smyth County, VA. She died January 20, 1889 in Smythe County, VA and is buried at St. Clair's Bottom Church. She married, Campbell Berry ST. JOHN in Smyth County, VA.

Myrtle Cole was an elegant southern lady who was extremely helpful to us in our reserach of the Patterson and St. John families.  

Myrtle Rambo married Ernest Cole, son of William Rutledge and Melvina Patterson Cole, who was the son of James Lowery and Elizabeth Patterson Cole. Myrtle is related to Neale through the St. John family; her husband related to Neale through the Patterson family.
