Front, left to right is Eldridge Clifton sitting next to his grandfather, James E. Clifton. Behind Eldridge is James' second wife, Nancy Bott Clifton. The two others in the picture have not been identified. This is an enlargement of the picture on the right. Eldridge is a son of Claude G. Clifton, who was a son of James E.
This picture was taken in the middle 1930s. James E. Clifton's farm was located in the Greendale area of Washington County, a few miles north of Abingdon, the county seat.

James' final resting place is in Garrett Cemetery, just a short distance from his farm. The picture is from the Buford J. Clifton Collection.

James Ervin Clifton was the son of Elias C. Clifton, who was a son of Martin J. Clifton. Martin was born in Virginia and died in Tennessee after 3 marriages. Martin J. was a son of John Clifton of Henry County, VA
